Window Terms Glossary

AAMA: American Architectural Manufacturers Association. A national trade association that establishes voluntary standards for the window, door, storefront, curtain wall, and skylight industries.

Air Chambers: spaces with the sash and frame which makes the window more energy efficient and help to insulate.

Air leakage: it is the measured, equivalent cubic feet of air passing through a square foot of window area. Heat loss and gain occur by infiltration through cracks in the window assembly.

Airspace: the space between multiple-pane of glass in a window.

Argon gas: is safe, nontoxic, non-flammable inert gas used in insulating low e glass unit to reduce heat compounds.

Annealed glass: Standard sheet of float glass which is a process of heating and slow cooling to relieve stresses either compressive or tensile in a matter of minutes.
